ARTISTIC DIRECTOR

Florian Helgath

Florian Helgath was the choral director of the via-nova-chor München from 2008 to 2016 and has conducted numerous premieres and won several prizes at nationally and internationally acclaimed choir contests.

Florian Helgath was exposed to music at an early age, singing in the renowned boys' choir „Regensburger Domspatzen“ in his home town. Later, he enrolled at the School of Music and Theater Munich and became a student of Professor Michael Gläser, majoring in choral conducting. Professor Gläser as well as Stefan Parkman and Dan Olof Stenlund were to become his most important teachers, shaping and influencing his development as conductor significantly. Florian Helgath was internationally successful as prize winner and finalist at the Eric Ericson Award in 2006 in Sweden and at the Competition For Young Choral Conductors in 2007 in Budapest.

From 2009 to 2015 Florian Helgath was the Chorus Master of the Danish Radio Choir and in November 2011 he became the artistic director of the ChorWerk Ruhr. Together with the renowned ChorWerk Ruhr he works on choral music of all epochs and at the highest of musical standards, perfoming a cappella as well as with orchestras.

Florian Helgath is a regular guest conductor for the SWR Vokalensemble, the RIAS Kammerchor and the Bavarian Radio Choir and he works with assorted orchestras such as the Munich Radio Orchestra, the Danish Chamber Orchestra, the Munich Symphony, the Acadamy for Old Music Berlin, the Concerto Köln and the Ensemble Resonanz from Hamburg. He has also taken on rehearsals for Herbert Blomstedt, Kent Nagano, Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos and Christian Thielemann.
